Please read Daniel chapter 1:1ff
What is in a name: Don prefers to use original names, instead of the names which biblical personalities are given in captivity. By the way did you know that, Ashpenaz (Daniel 1:3 - the master of the King’s Eunuchs) means ‘Horse’s Nose’. This guy had a nose of biblical proportion. Just still thinking about names, do you ever wonder what name people would give you based on your character.Names have meaning to them, and is biblical times they said something about the person who was named. It could either be a positive or a negative trait.
Do you compromise, when no one is watching you?: These three young people had to have wondered how it was possible for servants of the Lord to be taken into captivity. They have to have asked the question, ‘I thought we are God’s people, how could we have been taken away?’. It’s important for young people to note that, even though these young people where taken away to live in a foreign land without their parents. They did not forsake their inheritance.
How Could they have been Captured? In looking at why the children of Israel were taken into captivity, lets read II Kings 24:10-15. At the time this prophesy was spoken, it was just words, but now we see it come to pass in Daniel 1. Read the book of Numbers 22:5ff. Read vs 20 and then read vs 22. We learn here that the Lord will tell you what His perfect will is. If you decide to do what you want, the Lord will let you do what you want but will not be pleased.
